Blessthefall

BLESSTHEFALL
PLUS: PIERCE THE VEIL,
MOTIONLESS IN WHITE
The Relentless Garage, London
15.10.11
Words: Jenny Chu

IT'S HARD to identify why a band who have been writing and touring for two years off a decade haven’t managed to sell out a 630 capacity venue in North London. This same night, local boys; You Me At Six play to a sold out audience 8 times the size. But this isn’t taken to heart by Blessthefall who travelled over 5,000 miles to be here.  Their first support; Motionless In White may look like Marilyn Manson followers but share the same label as the headliners and on record can evidently appeal to fans of The Word Alive and fellow label mates; A Skylit Drive. Another Fearless Records band; Pierce The Veil pump the audience from the second they take the stage.  Their covers of Like A G6 (Far East Movement) and Black And Yellow (Wiz Khalifa) show the bands diversity and they perform a fair mixture of songs from their debut album Selfish Machines and 2007 full-length release A Flair For The Dramatic. There are so many bands with a voice as high as frontman Vic Fuentes’ but this band have a secret ingredient all those other post-hardcore/rock bands lack.

Saving the best ‘til last; Blessthefall have come a long way, distance wise and emotionally. Bands have their ups and downs but Blessthefall have come out winners. Though vocalist Beau Bokan has only been part of the band since 2008, it seems they could engrave his name into the band and fans would approve. Opening track 2.0 brings the audience together and they sing in unison until a vicious circle pit ignites. From their pulse-like drumming and wild tapping to their flawless clean vocals and powerful screams every song leaves a memorable stamp.
Crowd pleasers Hey Baby, Here’s That Song You Wanted, To Hell And Back and Guys Like You Make Us Look Bad put the night on a high, raising the bar for future bands. New album Awakening (released 4th October 2011) is their 3rd full length album and the set list include songs from this, His Last Walk and Witness. New track Bottomfeeder and the beautiful melody and lyrics in that of Stay Still is when Blessthefall are at their best, they’ve grown and such talent is rare to come by. Though a small one, the show was nothing less than successful.
